Hunter’s Hall, Kingscote

This was a flying visit and an unplanned stop over due to atrocious weather on a round trip from Yorkshire to Bristol Uni. Hunters Hall was recommended by our Airbnb host as a good place to get a bite to eat and a drink.

In spite of a busy evening in the pub we were warmly welcomed by the staff and provided with a table and a drink immediately. We were warned of a 40 minute delay with food (birthday party upstairs) but we were content to wait in this thankfully original and un-bistrofied building near a log fire (and only had to wait about 30 mins). The food when it arrived was excellent. It is so difficult these days to find lamb that actually tastes like lamb, but the chef here evidently knows what he is doing, and his food was much appreciated.

We had been given a 30% discount card by our Airbnb host, whose son worked at the pub, which added to the pleasure of finding a place where the staff understand that a pub / bar / restaurant / hotel is as much a people business as it is a food or accommodation business. Even without the voucher, the excellent meal and service would have been well worth the full cost.

No complaints. Highly recommended
