We can all heal

You can use your wealth to heal and achieve Purposeful Prosperity in many different ways by relieving the pain of others.

HEALING

“We can all heal.”

So I was told the other day by a friend in his 90s who knew what he was talking about.

The comment seemed at once so obvious and, at the same time, so insightful.

To make an impact is central to the concept of Purposeful Prosperity, of course, and to heal certainly makes an impact. To heal is to relieve pain, which could come in many different forms.

Words heal

Physical injury may need no more than a piece of sticking plaster and a few kind words.

Emotional and spiritual injuries are more difficult to identify in others. Often, it takes a few words to heal, spoken with compassion and kindness, even if those words need to be tough.

When someone you know is badly damaged, physically or mentally, and needs specialist help and care, you can help to heal by being there for them and those close to them.

Healing pain points

Businesses identify “pain points” in their target audience and develop a product or service to relieve that pain. We run our businesses to heal the pain in others, to make an impact, and to find meaning in so doing.

You can see a difference between businesses run purely for profit and businesses whose primary goal is to be of service and to heal the pain points. Turnover and profit are the by-products of the service you provide to heal the pain in others, not the primary goal.

A friend in our village makes beautiful cushions and bags by hand from fabric offcuts and discontinued pattern books. She was frustrated that her customers were unaware of this. She decided to have labels made and was delighted when a small family firm designed, manufactured and delivered the labels in a day with a little complimentary note.

Yes, it was computerised and automated, no doubt, but the company solved a problem with speed and compassion and helped my friend heal her frustration and pain.

We can all heal if we choose to, and in so doing, relieve the pain in others and find meaning in our lives.

Your Next Steps

Reflection time

Reflect on the power of healing to make a difference.

  • Consider when you may have been treated with compassion and kindness in pain. How did it feel? What impact did it have on you?
  • What are some of the causes of pain you can bring to mind?
  • Do you avoid people in pain or do what you can to help them?
