So, another academic year draws to close. I find the academic cycle almost as dynamic as the natural cycle of the seasons, with its power to reflect change in our children much as the seasons reflect change in the natural world. I suppose the big difference is that academia is less cyclical, more a progression.

The summer holidays become a time of anticipation of the changes to come in September. Teaching staff come and go, a new set of students come in at the start and the penultimate form become the new top form with all the responsibilities and challenges that entails.
